Bangladesh youth's story of learning 'cross-border E-commerce'

By Xu Peiqin

Shi Jing from Bangladesh is an international student in Nantong College of Science And Technology. ‘The Belt and Road’ proposal gave him a chance to study abroad. He wished that he could work for his country after learning e-commerce in China. Shi Jing said, ‘before I came to the school, I saw the ‘Double 11 shopping carnival’ news online and felt surprised. It attracted me to study in China. China not only has a history of thousands of years, but also has internet economy which is developing fast.’

After he came to China, Shi Jing found out that internet develops very fast in China. Payment by mobile phones can be used everywhere, when shopping in supermarkets, getting on a bus, and going to tourist sports, which is very convenient. In the present most consumptions in Bangladesh are done by cash payment. Participating in e-commerce practice is an important part of Shi Jing’s course in school. The hard-working student got excellent scores in cross border E-commerce competition of the school, and is now doing an internship as an international student representative at Nantong Dynamic Apparel Online Business Co., Ltd. He participated in every step of the process in various departments, from photography of products, live broadcast, customers’ service, website art design, to operation, warehouse and logistics. He said that he bought online before as a customer in a casual way. However, when he did e-commerce, the role was changed. For example, working in customers’ service, he had to know the product itself first, then introduced it to customers. And he was required to look at the computer screen all the time. He felt that managing an online shop was not as easy as he thought.

Shi Jing will complete all the courses of electronic commerce major in half a year. About future career plan, he said, ‘I would like to work in an e-commerce company after graduation, to gain experiences for opening an online store myself. I will introduce goods from Bangladesh to China and sell some products of China to Bangladesh, let the e-commerce course help in international trade of ‘the Belt and Road’ proposal.’
