On 23 December 2019, overseas Chinese youth ‘Root Seeking’ winter camp opening ceremony was held in Nantong. 73 overseas Chinese youths and teachers from countries including America, Australia, Italy and Thailand gathered in Nantong. It is the 1st time for Nantong to hold overseas Chinese youth winter camp. It will last 10 days.

Chen Sihan, who has Nantong ancestry and is staying in Australia, went to China to participate in summer camps and winter camps several times. ‘I like to learn drawing and calligraphy, and make friends here.’ Chen Sihan said that his parents speak Chinese at home and looked for a professional Chinese tutor for him, hoping that he could learn more Chinese culture. Zhang Jingwen who is also from Austria can speak fluent mandarin, ‘I would like to visit museums, learn more Chinese history and get to know stories of ancestors.’
