Yesterday the reporter learnt from Rugao civil affairs bureau that up to 1 January 2020, the number of centenarians in Rugao reached 524.

Among the centenarians in Rugao, there are 16 people who are over 105 years old. The eldest man is Liu Jigui in Wanfu community of Dongchen town, who is 110 years old. The eldest woman is Sun Wenying in Yixu community of Changjiang town, who is 109 years old. There are two siblings in Rugao, 103 years old Ma Shifeng in Banjng town and 100 years old Ma Zhiyuan of Chengbei community who are both centenarians.

According to statistics, the population of Rugao is close to 1.42 million. There are 9.2 thousand people who are over 90 years old. The aging population is a lot more than average numbers of the state and Jiangsu province. In the last few years, Rugao published a series of retirement and senior citizen benefit policies. In 2019 more than 61 million Yuan senior citizen allowance was given.
